STORY-TELLER
Hi, I am Dan Trotter, a well-worn Australian citizen and Canadian national, ready for life’s next chapter. After twenty years of working across almost every form of content creation (mostly making projects) for other people, it’s time to start capturing the stories that matter to me and hopefully make the world a better place. One step at a time. And that’s what Wild Like Life is all about….
A new chapter, a new purpose, a new way of living, seeing and believing and a way of giving back to the planet we get to call home. Mother Earth. And I intend to do that through storytelling, not just any story, but stories that celebrate nature, wild open places, plants, animals, adventure and the people who commit their lives and their time to try and protect and conserve the species and ecosystems that are left.
This calling has always been in my heart and soul, but I’ve never known how to make it come to life, and to be honest, I’m still not sure how to make it sustainable. But the only way to find out is to start. So start now I must, armed with decades of video story-telling experience, my trusty production van ‘Wildling’ a starter pack of camera gear and a dwindling runway of personal funds to get the show on the road.

For the last two decades, I’ve been making television, advertising and marketing content and for the last ten years, I have been running a video production company called FOUND AT SEA films, which creates beautiful work for amazing companies and does ok and has got me here. Here, to this new starting point, and together we will see what happens next.
It has been a challenging time with a lot of tough decisions that have ultimately seen me ‘reset’ my life, shrug off the comfort of the safety of a weekly income, staff, a comfy office and be brave and certain in the face of change and new challenges. But I am resilient and certain that if I build it ‘they’ will come.
And just in case you’re wondering who that is that keeps popping up in my images and videos, that’s Charlotte or ‘Shar’ my favourite person in the world, my part-time partner in crime and ad-hoc adventure buddy.
So what is Wild Like Life?

If you’re wondering what I’ve doine before, well here’s the answer. For the last two decades and even longer, I’ve been involved in video and film production, working my way up from work experience kid to executive producer and director. For the last ten years, I’ve been the executive producer and founder at FOUND AT SEA films. That’s my commercial video production company where we create loads of great ads for some of the world’s most innovative brands as well as a variety of video content for clients across Australia and the globe. With a solid team in place to keep things running, I can duck in and out of the city and Australia to build out new horizons and do more of the kind of content I love to create. Conscious content, with a purpose to educate, entertain, conserve and connect people to the land, to country, to the cycles of life and through a shared love of these things to each other.
For me life’s too short to only work to make a living, you’ve got to also do things that fill up your cup and hopefully make a positive difference to the world.
